Note to Parents & Students:
~ Middle school art classes are not like art classes at the elementary level. Art classes at the middle school are academic courses and students are graded just as they are in all subject areas.
~ Students need to be prepared for class, should participate in discussions and activities, and must reach a level of proficiency in order to pass the course. **This year at LMS, writing assignments using the TEEC outline are required in all classes. Students will be graded using the writing standards.
~ There are clear objectives for each lesson which are teachable and measureable, and therefore grades are not subjective in nature.
~ Rubrics and checklists are used to grade students, along with written pieces, quizzes, and anecdotal records. You will see the rubrics attached to the artwork when they are sent home. Please call me if you have any questions or concerns. 721-3400 x1714.
